21 – 22 Dec 2012 - 350.org Vietnam together with representatives of more than 30 INGOs, VNGOs, research institutes and local leaders of 13 provinces in Mekong Delta participated in “Sharing Grassroots Initiatives to Respond to Climate Change in the Mekong Delta” workshop and “Sharing and Dialogue workshop on Climate Change Adaptation in the Mekong Delta” at Can Tho University (Can Tho, Vietnam).
In this occasion, 350.org Vietnam was nominated for its innovative contributions to the combating climate change (CC) mission. From the community-based working methods that 350.org VN had been executing successfully, it was emphasized that besides their technical consultant roles, CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) need to bridge businesses and locals as an efficient resolution to financial problems which CC adaptation projects were facing. Effective communication and human resource management were also believed to play a significant role in raising communities’ awareness towards CC.
In addition, the “solar bottle” project presented by 350.org Vietnam did become a hot topic, attracted much attention of local leaders. The project was evaluated as an energy solution to CC that was simple, feasible, economical and appropriate for the natural and social conditions of Mekong Delta.
Encouraging results achieved at the two workshops created an opportunity for further and closer cooperation between INGOs, VNGOs and locals as well as bringing tremendous moves for CC and adaptation projects in Vietnam.
